You actually clicked the the promoter’s “about” section?
Statistically speaking, that means you’re either someone doing a vibe check before deciding whether or not to work with us or a bot, but if not… Cool! Weird (that used to be us, we would know), but cool! Guess we’ll “live our values” and “lead by example” or whatever and practice some vulnerability by yapping about why we’re doing all this:
Kill Chic is one part event company, one part intervention, both parts run by culture industry veterans who got tired of waiting for the “situation” to improve itself.
“The “situation“?”, you ask, absolutely -burning- with curiosity about these people who seem to have fundamentally misapprehended the promotional and professional purpose of an “about” page. Fine, no need to be pushy, we’ll explain. Sweet of you to care so much.
The “situation” is as follows:
The primordial human need for shared experiences, shared spaces and shared meanings has undergone the same process of economic capture and transformation as… well, just about everything humans need, at the present moment. Housing, healthcare, food, water, connection… et cetera. Everything somehow costs us more and nourishes us less, year after year after year.
Now, before the low-vibrational debate bros come swooping in to satisfy their compulsion to fill the hole where secure attachments should have gone with easy gotchas, yes; we are extremely aware that the lack of some of those things we just mentioned is much more immediately dangerous to human beings than a lack of opportunities to be somewhere that isn’t work or home, to share an experience with other people, to dance and sing and listen and experiment and connect and practice the fragile art of making other worlds, together.
If we weren’t, we would almost certainly be doing all of this for free.
However; while parties and events may not directly combat such immediate physical threats, when done correctly, they do ward off a host of social and psychic dangers. Isolation. Alienation. Fragmentation. Just to name a few.
On the individual level, these maladies effect our minds and bodies like any other disease or poison. On the cultural level, they exhibit similar characteristics.
We believe that the antidote to the atomization epidemic driving all of us insane is the conscious, persistent participation in the creation of -shared- meaning.
We believe that the circumstances most conducive to these acts of co-creation foster participation, curiosity, emotional investment, shared space and shared reference points.
We’ve noticed that the best performances, works of art and, of course, best parties we’ve personally experienced understand the importance of all these elements. We plan our own events accordingly…
Huh. You really got us going there, didn’t you? It’s wild, we just feel so -safe- talking with you, it’s like we’ve known each other forev-
Oh yeah. About page. Probably worth putting it succinctly for TL;DR types who still felt compelled to click this section.
Kill Chic. What are we about?
We’re about Nightlife as Antidote.
Nightlife as Ritual.
Nightlife as a space to practice creating other worlds together, not just escaping the current one.
We’re aware this is a pretty strange set of priorities for people throwing parties.
We’re pretty sure you’ll have fun anyway. ;P
